glitchy spots on user interface/control panel

$

It used to happen very seldom and now it is becoming more and more frequent. I get splotches ONLY on the user interface/control panel. Everything still works fine but I get very nervous about it (I think when it happened years ago it may have made my game shutdown and lose progress) As soon as I notice I save my game and quit and when I reopen it's back to normal. But like I said it seems to be happening sooner and sooner. It is getting very frustrating having to save and quit and start the game up all over again since I only have limited time to play. If anyone can offer me some insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Macs that have Intel Iris Graphics

Notice to the 2015 iMac users
If you have a late 2015 iMac, you may have issues with The Sims 3. All 21.5" iMacs have Intel integrated graphics: the 1.6 GHz model has Intel HD 6000 while the 2.8GHz and 3.1 GHz models have Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200, these Graphics are said to be incompatible with The Sims 3.

All 27" models have AMD graphics ranging from AMD Radeon R9 M380 to AMD Radeon R9 M395X and I believe (although not tested) they may not work with The Sims 3.

If you have an iMac with these graphics, please post in this thread and confirm if The Sims 3 works.

The Late 2013 and Mid 2014 iMacs aren't affected unless the iMac has a 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5.

Original text
This thread is to help you find out which Macs have Intel Iris or Intel Iris Pro Graphics. This information was taken from Apple, About integrated video on Intel-based Macs.

Since Mac users are probably still playing TS3, this guide helps you find out which Macs have Intel Iris in case if you own or are going to purchase a new Mac. The Sims 3 is the only The Sims game on the Mac that hasn't been patched to support the Intel Iris or Intel Iris Pro Graphics whereas The Sims 2 Super Collection and The Sims 4 have been updated to support the Intel Iris Graphics. Below the Useful Links are the list of Macs that have Intel Iris or Intel Iris Pro Graphics as of June 21, 2015.

What I've learned from @BluebellFlora is that The Sims 3 has problems on Macs with Intel Iris which newer Macs have. This is easy to avoid for the iMac since only the 2.7 GHz model has Intel Iris Pro Graphics. However, most MacBook Pros (especially the 13" models) only have Intel Iris or Intel Iris Pro Graphics which is almost unavoidable unless you have the 2.5 GHz 15" Retina model (the most expensive model) which has a discrete GPU. The entry level 15" rMBP has only Intel Iris Pro Graphics.

While The Sims 3 may work in Macs with newer graphics, you'll most likely get a Unrecognized Video Card since the newer cards haven't been included in the GraphicsCard.sgr and GraphicsRules.sgr files.

To find your Mac model and video card on OS X, click on the Apple Menu and then click About this Mac. Your Mac's model and hardware specs will be listed. If your Mac model isn't included on this list, you are not affected. Another thing to check is the Graphics, if OS X says your Graphics is Intel Iris, Intel Iris Pro, Intel HD Graphics 5000, Intel HD Graphics 6000, or AMD Radeon R9 M370X, you will have problems with TS3.

In case if you're running Windows through Boot Camp, I'll include the instructions to find your video card on Windows. On Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, you can right click your desktop and click Screen Resolution, click on Advanced settings and you should see a dialog appear. If you're on Windows 10, right-click the desktop, click Display settings, click on Advanced display settings, and click Display adapter properties to open the dialog. The Adapter tab lists your video card.

For the Late 2013 and Mid 2014 iMac: Your iMac is only affected by the problem if your processor speed is 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 and the Mac is listed by OS X as iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013) or iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2014). Other iMac models made in 2013 and 2014 do not include Intel Iris/Iris Pro Graphics so they are unaffected.

Can't See Sims Game Content Even Though It Says The Game is Open?

I am trying to open my Sims 3 game. It says that it's open, but I can't actually see the content. When I go to the corner of my screen where it shows everything that I currently have open, I can see that something is open, but it is just a blue-ish box, no Sims content. And when I go back to my normal screen, even after selecting the Sims icon, nothing opens. I'm not sure how to fix it. I think it is an issue with my display, maybe? I'm not really sure. I can't fix it though, and would appreciate some help! Thank you!

How do I add custom content without the launcher?

I downloaded some custom content from Sims Resource and after installing some of the content my launcher stopped working. It wouldn't even show up. So, I've been opening my game with TS3. Everything works fine all the content is there. The problem is, I still have some content I want to put in the game, but I can't install it without the launcher.

I've tried following from this site [http://slinkyscrap.wordpress.com/sims-3-custom-content-sites/how-to-install-custom-content/], but it's not working. (I think it's because the article is a few years old.) Is there another way to add custom content?

Mac help!

hi everyone o:)

i have the sims 3 base game, late night & supernatural but i'm afraid to download them onto my mac.
those three were downloaded onto my mac then i downloaded all of this CC and i had to get my harddrive replaced. not sure what the cause was, but i'm thinking it was unsafe CC. my game never really froze or did anything worrying, it was just my mac in general that took the hit. it took like over half an hour to start up my mac and would be super slow, but the sims 3 never ran slowly.

i was just wondering what's the best way to keep my mac clean and running smoothly but still have CC?
i have no idea what mods are or any of these technical terms haha.. i love custom content and i download it from thesimsresource (is that website even safe btw?) and how do i find "good" CC?
i just don't want to have to get my harddrive replaced again or buy an extra harddrive because i'm a student and that's money i don't have!

i'm a total dummy when it comes to tech-related stuff. i just like to play the sims and i like high settings to make my sims look pretty!
if anyone is kind enough to explain everything to me (and if i can even have the sims + 2 expansion packs on my mac), i will greatly appreciate it :)

also, this is the mac i have:
macbook pro 13 inches, mid 2012
processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB

thank you for reading!!! o:) <3

Disc Errors in OS X El Capitan - How to fix

One of the most common issues users are facing since updating their Macs to El Capitan is the Disc Authorization issue. This has been around for years and does not just affect those who have upgraded, however it does seem prevalent amongst those who have.

It's very easy to fix, you simply uninstall your most recent EP and redownload and reinstall it via Origin. I have written a comprehensive guide on how to do this on my website, should you need any help :)

Custom content not showing in game

A couple of days ago I downloaded some custom content that was causing my game to crash whenever I tried to open the game. For whatever reason the broken custom content wasn't showing in the launcher so i turned custom content off to try and fix the problem, this solved the game crashing and i somehow managed to delete the stuff (I don't remember how now). When i tried to turn the custom content back on it wasn't showing in the game. Ive tried deleting the files in the DCCache then reinstalling the custom content. I have also tried renaming the sims 3 file to sims 3 backup and re-downloading and reinstalling some store content and they still aren't showing. I have rebooted my Mac and I've downloaded SuperPatcher, oh and the new sims 3 folder doesn't have any mods. Does anyone know what I try to fix this?

I am running OSX Capitan 10.11.3

On my computer I installed Sims. Then immediately I bought a Sims 3 Pets expansion pack ~ not the disc but the code. I have installed it. However when I go press 'play' the Sims 3 pets icon comes up, and then quits and nothing happens.

I just want to play the game!

I've really been wondering, Because I spent 40-50 dollars on the starter pack, why can't I figure out how to get the most of it? I have the High end loft or whatever, and the base game, but no late night. Also, I run sims on Origin, and I don't know if like thats the only way or whatever xD

The Sims 3 not working!! Please Help!!

So I just bought a new sims 3 game through Origin. The first couple months it worked great until I installed my old expansion packs that I had stored. Now, when I load the game it goes in and when I go to choose a family, a message appears with only 2 options. RETRY and QUIT. When I press retry the message appears again like nothing happens and when I press quit, it quits the game. It doesn't matter how many times I open the game, the same message always appears. Help please!! I don't know what to do....

So, I just bought the sims 3 starter pack, and downloaded origin for the first time. However, it will not allow me to log in. Every time I attempt to log in, an orange pop up appears and says that I need to be online to log in for the first time. I have made sure several times that I am connected to wifi, and have restarted my computer several times. Nothing works. I have a Mac desktop computer. Any suggestions? I would highly appreciate it.

MacBook Air Loud Fan Noise

Hello fellow simmers!
Recently I have downloaded the sims on my MacBook Air 13 inch early 2015. It runs fine but I hear a very loud fan noise and my laptop gets hot very quickly it doesn't usually do this. Should I stop playing the sims on my laptop? I don't want it to overheat. And also when I was installing all my expansion packs on this laptop it wouldn't let me install seasons and supernatrual because it wouldn't give me a product code to copy and paste.

Sims 3 and El Capitan OS update

So I updated my mac to the latest operating system El Capitan. 'Update your mac they said, it'll be good they said'.
And now I cannot play my beloved Sims 3. Since I later learned El Capitan doesn't support it.
Has anyone else got this issue? Does anyone have any advice at all?
I'm fuming to be honest, I bought a $3000 mac laptop and hundreds of $$ on Sims 3 and all the expansions to be un-able to play. GRRR.

FRUSTRATING MAC BUG, PLEASE HELP ME!

Hey!

I am suffering this bug on The Sims 3: "Exception raised. Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000104 at address 0x95efe0c0
It happens 30 minutes or so ingame, and much faster when I start Create a Sim.

The bug:

1. In Create a Sim: After 10 minutes of playing in Create a Sim the hard graphic corruptions start. The sim I am working on turns grey-black (like clothes, hair, everything) I cannot see their face, just the eyes (black eyes but I can still see them). Sometimes they even turn to a rainbow.. Like I can see the sim, but they're only rainbow coloured all over.. Then the only thing I can do to help myself is to save the sim in the library, because that is an indicator of my mac crashing. After 2 minutes with rainbow-or-black sims the game crashes and gives me the error message shown above.
2. Ingame: After 30 minutes of play the screen gets much lighter (as ingame light, not my Cinema Display light). If I then try to save the game I get the error message shown above. If I continue playing the game, it crashes, as in CAS, and gets the error message shown above. I am asked if I want to debug it or not, but it does not help. The game crashes nomather which button I choose. I am suffering the exact same bug on both of my macs.

These are the specs on my computers:
Macbook Air late2013 13" 1.3Ghz Intel Core i5 4GB RAM 120 GB Flash Storage running OS X 10.10.5
Mac Mini late2014 3.0Ghz Intel Core i7 16GB Ram 1TB HDD storage running OS X 10.11 (15A243d) with 24" Cinema Display from 2011
I have these expansion packs installed:

The sims 3 Seasons
The sims 3 Generations
The sims 3 Late Night
The sims 3 Ambitions
The sims 3 Student Life
The sims 3 Into the Future
The Sims 3 World Adventures
The Sims 3 Island Paradise
The Sims 3 Pets

Other:

Lucky Palms
Riverview
Monte Vista
Sunlit Tides
Hidden Springs
Some other store content

Game settings:

Enable Object Hiding "On"
Reflection Quality "Mirrors & Water"
Edge Smoothing "Low"
Visual Effects "Medium"
Lightning and Shadows "Medium"
Tree Detail "High"
Enable Animation Smoothing "On"
Enable Advanced Rendering "On"
Draw Distance "Medium"
High Detail Lots "3"
Texture detail "Medium"
Sim Detail "Medium"
Screen Size: 1344 x 840 (16:10)
Screen Refresh Rate "Standard"
What I have tried to do so far:

1: Called EA Support about this issue. They thought it had something to do with the serial codes in Origin so they changed them all to new ones. Then I had to uninstall the games - One by One - for then to reinstall them (still have the exact same issue).

2: Delete cache files – did not work

3: Sudo Purge. At one forum I read that it had with bad coding and programming to do (which it actually is) so I had to play the Sims 3 in windowed mode, writing "Sudo Purge" in the terminal each 5 minute or so 4: Played both with CD and not with CD (origin) and a combination. Nothing worked

As you see I have tried many things, but nothing seem to work.

PS: The game works as it should on my Macbook Pro from 2007, but it cannot run the game on higher settings, only the lowest..

Please help me!

Need Mac lap top for sims 3+

X posted now twice... Sorry admins. Want to get this to the right place

"Looking for a Mac lap top that will play all sims 3 and maybe sims 4 not looking for super fancy but something that will make the play enjoyable. A link to a laptop would be great and maybe the specs of what I might like it to have. I know someone who works in refurbishing but he has no idea when it comes to sims. So I need to know exactly what I'm looking for. Right now I have 2009 Mac and it can run sims 3 base game but pixelates sims anytime you move the camera and moves at a snails pace. Tia"

Now I read the first post, and if I am
Correct I really won't be able to play both 3 and 4 on the same
Lap top due to issues with the sims 3?

This being said. I love my sims 3... I have sims 4 but really haven't played it. We have an Apple TV so my hubby was hoping I'd get a Mac. I'm kinda lost on what to buy. Is there a happy medium anywhere?

*EA Technicians Please Take A Look At This* Sims 3 getting stuck on launch screen

Hi! So I am a MacBook Air (early 2015 13 inch) user therefore I have Intel HD 6000 graphics which is not compatible with Sims 3 and sadly I haven't got another computer on which I can play Sims 3. Including mine, there is a total of 14 Mac's (having different graphics cards) having this problem. @BluebellFlora came up with an alternative solution but it works out for a few. In other forums, they've been saying that EA needs to release an update but as someone who's contacted EA support a several times and tried troubleshooting steps that EA suggested (which didn't work) I know that an update wouldn't be enough to fix this problem.

So today I contacted EA support again and they suggested me to flag this situation to this forum...

I was wondering if higher tier technicians would get this problem to come to an end. Like for example releasing a new Sims 3 (and all the packs) on Origin which can be downloaded if you already have that Sims 3 registered to Origin (and which is of course compatible with Intel HD 6000 and other graphics cards). They can make the new Sims 3 compatible with them by copying Sims 4's graphics card options (if they are compatible), maybe that would work.

That was just one idea. So it would be really appreciated by hundreds or maybe thousands of simmers if you could make graphics cards below compatible with Sims 3.

Thank you in advance.
